As we have now hit 500 members in the Dust Tactics and Warfare FaceBook group, I thought it might be time host a little painting comp. So without further delay:

Announcing the “Wings, Wheels and Tracks” Dust Tactics and Warfare group painting contest.
Paint up any non-walker vehicle (thus the uh…’wings wheels and tracks’ title) and submit 3-5 pictures. Due date is December 22nd 11:59 p.m. Pacific Standard Time. The winner (there can be only ONE!) will be announced before the new year. Prize will be bragging rights and a surprise. Send pics to: dusttacticsandwarfaregroup@hotmail.com

Rules and regulations.
You have to paint the model yourself.
It cannot have been previously entered in any other painting contest nor can it be entered into another concurrent painting contest. Really the idea here is to paint it up for this specific contest.
D48 and Dustified kits ARE perfectly acceptable, though simply slapping an MG 44 on an otherwise mundane Panther will be frowned upon.
By sending me pics you are allowing me to post them to Facebook.

I just bought Dust so this maybe the kick in the arse I needed to get painting. Is there somewhere to post finished results for this comp specifically or do I repost on this thread?

Oh, also, hello Dust community. I am happy I stumbled upon this game!

Are converted units allowed? I have a fledgling allied force that has had all walkers converted to tracked vehicles and are on the painting table waiting for something more than primer. Probably would be a Tracked Long Tom 2, a tankified cobra, or a tractorised Blackhawk that would end up as the contest entry if allowed.

Also, do the pics need to include a before or in progress shot? Or just final shots of the entry?

Thanks!

Edit:
It would probably be one of these:

Those look better than the real models IMHO.

Where did you get the parts for the track sections and bodies? Anyway we can get a tutorial?

Thanks! So as not to derail this thread I'll keep this short and post these and my other conversions(I'll just say jet packs for now :) ) and how I made them sometime later this week.

The short version: The tracks are from an old toy of a German Tiger I think. I cast them and can make copies as needed for all my large and medium "walkers". I have a smaller set for the light mechs to make them tractor like as well.

yes it can be a conversion. No you do not need in-progress shots. These look great btw, looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Cheers,

Because we hate you. The poll was unanimous. Wait, didn't you take part in that poll too? ;)

Email sent! As a new Diat player I started with an allied walker (from the core set). I was a little surprised that no amount of searching seemed to result in what might be considerd standard colors for the allies or axis. Thought for sure there would be something standard from Vallejo.

I think that may be why I love this game so much. Always been a bit scared off by some "fans" in more established wargameing scenes "NOOOO that's the wrong SHADE! ILLEGAL!!!" -proceeds to produce 5 lbs sledge and destroy models that cost several hundred dollars-

Dust is a great cost point, and very open to everyone's interpretation of what their forces should look like.

The downside to that? I've considered getting more copies of units for different cammo ...

Thats the great thing about Dust and WWII...its a global war with every faction fighting in every part of the globe, so while there are stylistic choices grounded in history, there is no real requirement to actually adhere to them.

You guys paint em however you want. there are no 'stitch counters' or RLM 'experts' on the judging panel. Tigerstripe camo on an SSU hovercraft/Karl Marx conversion in the Florida Evergaldes? Go for it.
